A Study on the Role Expectation of the Head Nurses in a Hospital


Abstract
The purpose of this study was an attempt to examine the value of the nurses¢¥s and doctors¢¥s role expectation against that of the head nurses who are in charge of each ward.
During the period from Nov. 5 to Nov. 10, 1990, data were collected from 119 nurses and 51 doctors who work in a hospital in Daejeon.
Data analysis included percentage, mean, stadard deviation, t-test and ANOVA.
The results were as follows£º
1. The nurses total expectation score was higher than the doctors 218.82£º185.82 (P<0.001).
2. In comparing each item£º
The nurses showed the highest score to the item about writing and sending all kinds of requests for work to the proper dept and confirming whether it completed or not (4.63). The item of educating once a week to ward staff got the lowest score (3.79).
The doctors gave the highest score to the item concerning the implementation of nursing plans and sometimes doing things by herself (4.07). The item about explaining patient¢¥s conditions to the relatives got the lowest score (2.96).
3. In comparing by the factor£º
The nurses showed the highest expectation mean score for Operating Management (4.47) and the lowest one was for Education and Research (3.84).
